Cross Over - better than Slam Dunk?

Nope, it's not better than Slam Dunk. However, if you thirst for some basketball manga action, this series has enough to quench it.
Cross Over is a manga made by Kouji Seo. It's about a class A, Junior high with an ambition to join the strongest high school ball club. Along the way he was recruited by very good natured players from the weakest basketball team in Japan.
Which school do you think he'll pick? Answer me. All together now!
Regardless of which team the ace will choose, this manga is fairly run-of-the-mill. I'm just on chapter 18, but if I compare this one to Slam Dunk, it just won't stack up. That may be solely because the main character is not that lovable, and sometimes the fan service cheapens the story a bit.
All in all, the manga is a fun read with lots of action and laughs to while away the boredom of work during office hours. Though, only if you work from home, because some of the fan service may be NSFW.
Read it here.

Online Manga Scanlation site - Read manga online
They cover every genre from shonen & shoujo to josie & seinen. They even have 238 complete manga scanlations.
Another good online manga site is Manga Fox. It has almost the same collection as One Manga but it also has some ecchi stuff. Everything can be read for free but the mature stuff needs registration, as it should.
Click on the links above to scan the manga directory of this site. If you really need to read a particular manga, it's probably listed in their directory.

Edit 2: No virus. Links are up again.
Edit: I temporarily removed the link to OneManga because of possible malware infection to Windows users. I'm not sure about this and I'm not accusing anyone. Just be cautious if you're a Windows user.

My newest acquired comics and manga
I've had the pleasure lately of acquiring the full volume to Akira and Watchmen. I've read about 2 volumes of Akira (big thanks to Geekman for the copy) so far and I find it an interesting read, though not as revolutionary as everyone says it was. Maybe I'm not far enough into the story yet, but I'll definitely finish reading that. As for Watchmen, I've heard a lot of comic geeks like me go on and on about this graphic novel. I bet I'll like it, hell, I like almost everything comics and manga. I don't have any idea about the story of Watchmen, I only heard geekgasms about it by fellow comic readers. I expect to be surprised and be left stunned with a gaping mouth, since this is one of the best work of Alan Moore. Alan Moore incidentally is one author that I've only heard good things about but has never really read any of his work. If I had unlimited resources, I would like to go buy all of his works just to familiarize myself with his genius.
Anyway, this summer will be busy for me because this is the time when we'll seriously move our business to fruition. I've been slowly developing a business plan to get people to invest, but every time I think of involving people the more I feel that doing this on our own will be a much better experience.
Nydia and I are excited to get this thing into motion that she's even considering taking the summer's off from law school just to help me. I'm excited as well, though I'm more nervous than anything else since I'll be putting a lot of my savings on the line in this venture. I guess that's another reason why this project is taking so long--I'm just making sure I'm not throwing money away.

Deadman manga

The Deadman manga was made by the author of Golden Boy but comparing these two creations are like night and day - while Golden Boy is a sex-comedy, Deadman is a perverse gothic tale about a mysterious vampire.
The art in this manga is highly-detailed and superb, a bit of departure from the cartoony style of Golden Boy. I can't say enough about the art of this comic--the style, the page layout, and the pacing all add to the strong story-telling of this title. The over-all style makes it easy to feel tension and terror from the situations in the story.
As usual this manga is for mature readers because of the disturbing visuals. Again that word - disturbing - but just read the damn thing and you'll see what I'm trying to say.
I'm also trying to review this title and the subsequent reviews with as little detail as possible because I want to avoid spoilers. I hate spoilers and I know that a lot of people hate this as well.
To get the Deadman scanlation just go here.
Saiyuki manga/anime

Saiyuki is a manga by Kazuya Minekura based on a famous Chinese novel entitled Journey to the West (Xi Yóu Jì). I don't know how much of the novel is identical with the manga and the anime but for sure it looks like a new adventure.
Saiyuki starts of with Genjo Sanzo talking to the three aspects of Buddha. The god then dispatches Sanzo along with Goku, Gojyo, and Hakkai to investigate why the demon population who used to co-exist with humans were suddenly going insane and killing people. So the four warriors journey West to get to the bottom of the strange phenomenon. Anyway, I'm not gonna go into full detail of the plot 'coz I found this great manga review site that can do all that better than I can.
All that I can say is that Saiyuki (both the manga and anime) is definitely worth your time and money. The characters are interesting and the art is great.
Here's a bit about the characters that might interest you: (1) Genjo Sanzo: A smoking, drinking, gun-toting monk leading the group. Incidentally, he's the only human in the group. (2) Son Goku: Yep, this is where Toriyama got his idea for Dragon Ball. In Saiyuki, Goku is the god of monkeys (I think he's unaware that he's a god) who's about 13 years old. He likes Sanzo-sama but he'll ditch him for food. (3) Cho-Hakkai: Legend has it that when you bathe in the blood of a hundred yukais (demons) you'll become a yukai yourself. Hakkai became a demon when he killed a clan of demons who raped his beloved. (4) Sha Gojyo: He's a half-yukai, half-human outcast with a big attitude but a huge heart.
By the way, the manga and anime don't have the same story. The manga's focus is on the Kame-Sama arc, while the anime goes straight to the plot where Sanzo's group goes against the group of the war god Homura. Both arcs have the same great art and action-packed stories that will appeal to both mature readers and kids alike, mature readers will love the philosophical undertones in this title while the kiddies won't be disappointed with the action.
Saiyuki has been licensed by Tokyopop but you can search for a scanlation torrent in Google. Note that the scanlation torrent is only up to volume 9, so get ready to be left hanging in the air if you are into scanlations.

Golden boy

This manga is great and is highly recommended for mature readers.
Oe Kintaro is a law school drop out at 25 years old, however, he has completed all the course work. He goes out as a student of the world, thirsty for knowledge about anything and everything. Kintaro just wanders around Japan looking for temporary jobs in a spur of the moment caprice. Along the way he meets people and completely change their lives before leaving them.
His adventures usually consist of hot women, nudity, and a lot of sexual escapades; but no matter what scrapes he gets into he gets himself out with his sunny attitude and aptitude for learning. He is a jack-of-all-trades but he masters them all.
Will he be able to save Japan - or the world? Maybe.
Another warning: This manga is definitely for adults only.

Manga scanlations
I'm not gonna discuss the quasi-legality or the morality of manga scanlations or fansubs because it has been done to death already. Simply put, my decision of not putting any links to scanlation for every manga that I will review here in the future is not about any other reason other than my preference.
That said, you can still search for scanlation links in the archives, or, for goodness sake, use either the search bar on the top of this blog or the one on the side bar to keep you from reloading my archived pages 10 times before you find the links you need. And yes, this really happened (you know who you are). I see one IP, the same freaking IP address, loading my page 10 times to search manually for Beck scanlation links. Spare yourselves, use the damn search tools.
Tutorial to Bastich's blog's search bars:
For the top search bar just use it like how you use Google [e.g. beck manga scanlation]. For the side bar Picosearch (a more comprehensive search of this site) please use one or two keywords to find a link or article you need [e.g. beck].
And that rounds up this post.

Sena is Eyeshield 21

That's the Devil Bat's American Football star running back. An awesome 4.2 second 40-yard dash earned him the notoriety in the open field. But life has not always been like this for Sena, at barely 5 feet tall, he was always being bullied by his classmates. He was just a lame gopher for the school's bigger students, and worst of all, he was always being defended by a girl. Poor Sena.
How did he become the bad ass Eyeshield 21, University of Notre Dame hero with the killer tackle? You have to read the manga, or watch the (much disliked) anime. I must say that this is the funniest sports themed manga since Slam Dunk. Well, not that I have a library of sports themed manga...
You can read Eyeshield 21 in Viz's monthly Shonen Jump.

Doraemon is the top cat

Astig! What can I say about Doraemon...I watched this anime since college and I will watch it again and again if local stations would replay it.
Doraemon is the blue cat on the picture. He is a cat from the future sent back by the great, great grandson of Nobita to guide the young Nobita in life. According to WIKI, Doraemon appeared in manga form since 1970 and it was turned into anime in 1973.
To make a long review short, Doraemon is a story about a typical elementary school boy, Nobita and all of his struggles as a boy. Most of the time the series is just some useless humorous show, but the stories were full of fantastic stuff that's heart warming and full of lessons about life, love and everything else under the sun.
Considering that Doraemon was really intended for young boys and girls, its popularity to older fans is a testament of its greatness and unique storytelling.
I give this series a 5 out of 5.
If you want a little preview of Doraemon, head to this site for a small collection of Doraemon scanlation.

Hikaru no Go
From Wikipedia:
For a review of the series, check out my Nydia's blog. I can't review this coz I haven't had the chance to read it yet. If you can't get a copy of the manga, you can temporarily check out my scanlation links by using my Picosearch located on the right sidebar.Hikaru no Go (?????) is a
popular Japanese anime and manga coming of age story based
on the board game Go written by Yumi Hotta and illustrated by Takeshi Obata . The production
was supervised by Yukari Umezawa ( 5-dan). The manga is largely
responsible for popularizing Go among the youth of Japan in recent years.First released in Japan in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998, Hikaru no Go has achieved
tremendous success, spawning a popular Go fad of almost unprecedented
proportions. Twenty-three volumes of manga were published in Japan, comprising
189 chapters plus 11 "omake" (extra chapters). An anime series ran for 75 half
hour episodes, along with extra New Year's Specials in January 2003 and January
2004.

I"s manga--starring: a romantic pervert

Warning to kiddies: This series was released in Japan Weekly Shonen Jump, but it contains a lot of fan service and a little nudity.
I"s is a high school love story of a boy who just can't do anything right when he is with his crush.
Ichitaka Seto is your typical Japanese high schooler. He is in love with his school mate Iori for the longest time, but he was unable to make any romantic move on her, 'coz she is the most sought after girl in their school.
Hopeless romantic Ichitaka is very much in love with the girl, but instead of impressing her, he seems to fall into perverted situations that make any attempt at romance gravitate towards disaster.
It's not all comedy. Some scenes make you want to root for Ichitaka, while others can make you hate some of his blunderings. All in all, a very entertaining read.
Last note: I have no idea where my friend Geekman got this manga.

One Piece - My new fave

This is one of the most popular manga/anime in the world. The comic and cartoon is still on-going in Japan, a testament to it's popularity.
One Piece is a story of a boy, Luffy D. Monkey, and his ambition to become the King of all pirates. Along his quest he meets different people--a skilled swordsman/bounty hunter named Roronoa Zorro; Nami, a greedy thief who has a knack for navigation; Yusop, a great liar who has an affinity for inventing; Sanji, a bad ass warrior cook; Chopper, a sentient deer who is also a skilled physician; and Robin, former member of Baroque Works.
Together, the gang sets sail to unknown seas in Grand Line spelunking into high adventure in every turn.
On another note, the debates in the web between Naruto fans and One Piece fans are absurd. The two are both Shonen but everyone can enjoy both series without fighting which series is better.
Anyway, if you want to read the manga of One Piece, just use my search box to find manga scanlation links.
