Switch to Blogger beta

I made the switch to Blogger beta and I'm still reserving judgment. One thing I have to say though, the "customise template" is a little lame since I can't seem to import my old template. I like my old template and would want to use the drag and drop customisation on it but I guess that won't happen. Still, I'll try out the drag and drop thingy today.

Edit: I tried out the template thing, it's nothing special but pretty good for HTML illiterates. Next one to try out are the labels.

All the king's men

I just finished book 1 and 2 of Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy(almost finished); I also finished The Da Vinci Code, kind of a let down. So now I can go to my comics list for the week like the digital version of Wasteland no. 1 - it's free and legal, and awesome.

I've been also reading Megatokyo and Penny Arcade (just google the links, I'm lazy this year) - they're very good webcomics that's been endorsed by Neil Gorman of the Comicology podcast, also another thing worth checking out.

Geekman has also downloaded for me the manga version of AKIRA (the Akira) and Ichi the killer. I've yet to check both titltes out but I heard only good things about them. I'm also reading the War Games saga of Batman, I think this was pre-infinite crisis story, all great stuff - I'm just sad that SHE has to die (no spoilers here, no pun intended).

Blogger beta has exciting new features

If you read http://buzz.blogger.com/ you'll find that Blogger is testing a beta that will launch a more powerful Blogger.
  • Categorize your posts with labels
  • Control who can read your blog
  • Change the appearance and content of your blog with your mouse instead of HTML

Plus, the new Blogger will allow users to use a wysiwyg editor to customise the look of their site.

All of these are great features but I hope that Blogger will have updated security 'coz I know there's a lot of script kiddies out there that can vandalize your blog.

Free Go computer game

GoGamemachine

Reading Hikaru No Go will make you play this game

Go is a startegy boardgame where two people using white or black stones fight for territory on a 19 by 19 board. As simple as my explanation sounds, Go can be best explained by Wikipedia:
Although rules of Go can be written so that they are very simple, the game strategy is extremely complex. Go is a perfect information, deterministic, strategy game, putting it in the same class as chess, checkers (draughts), and reversi (othello). It greatly exceeds draughts and reversi in depth and complexity, and transcends even the complexity of chess. Its large board and lack of restrictions allows great scope in strategy. Decisions in one part of the board may be influenced by an apparently unrelated situation in a distant part of the board. Plays made early in the game can shape the nature of conflict a hundred moves later.
Go, to say the least is not just a stupid chess clone. In fact, computer chess AI is easier to make than Go AI. This means that GO software are not super-strong against veteran Go players. That suits me fine because I'm not really very good at Go since I'm pretty much a noob.
So I found this Go Game Machine, a cool Go software that is just a 9 by 9 grid. It's a trainer for children to learn Go but it's also great for noobs like me. The game features 3 difficulty settings, versus human (hotseat), and versus CPU.

Try this great little game if you want to learn some Go.
